DRESS CODE
Students are expected to exercise good judgment, safety, good taste, and modesty regarding their dress and grooming. Any clothing considered to be disruptive to the Educational Process is inappropriate for school:

Students dressed inappropriately may be sent to the assistant principal’s office and/or sent home to change. Students who persist in any of these infractions may be assigned After School Detention, Saturday School, or referred to an alternative placement.
TOBACCO FREE FACILITIES
In the best interests of students, employees and the general public, the Board of Education prohibits the use of tobacco products at all times on district property and in district vehicles. This prohibition applies to all employees, students, visitors and other persons at any school or school sponsored activity or athletic event. It applies to any meeting on any property owned, leased or rented by or from the district. Tobacco products are prohibited from use or possession by students on campus or within 1,000 feet of campus boundary.
Consequences
First Offense: A court citation, parent contact, and a referral to a one-hour tobacco class.
Second Offense: A court citation and a Student Assistance Services (SAS) Intervention. Student will have the choice of 2 day suspension or an eight-week Tobacco Education Group (TEG/INSIGHT) class.
Third Offense: A court citation and a Student Assistance Services (SAS) Intervention. 3-Days suspension.
SAFE SCHOOLS
Students and staff members are entitled under the California State Constitution to attend schools that are safe, secure, and peaceful. The presence of weapons or replicas contribute to a climate of fear and disrupts the learning environment of the school. Replicas of weapons whether they be toy firearms, theatrical props, cap guns, starter pistols or replicas of other deadly weapons, have no place in the school environment.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT
It is the intent of the Board of Education that no student shall be discriminated against because of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and/or other verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature by any person within the educational setting.
Such conduct committed under the following conditions shall be considered as sexual harassment:
Any student and/or parent may report any instance of sexual harassment to the principal or designee for investigation and resolution through appropriate disciplinary procedures.
INTENTIONAL HARASSMENT (IH)
Intentional harassment is defined as threats or intimidation directed against a student or group of students that is sufficiently severe or pervasive that it materially disrupts class work, creates disorder, and invades the rights of that student or group of students.
Students are subject to suspension and/or expulsion for harassment when other means of correction have failed to bring about proper conduct or if the student’s presence causes a continuing danger to physical safety or threatens to disrupt the educational process.
HATE VIOLENCE (HV)
Hate violence is defined as any act punishable under California Statutes that interferes with the exercise of an individual’s civil rights, defacing or damaging personal property or felonies against persons because of the victim’s race, color, religion, nationality, or ancestry. (Penal Code Sections 442.6, 442.7 and 442.7.75).
Students are subject to suspension and/or expulsion for hate violence when other means of correction have failed to bring about proper conduct or if the student’s presence causes a continuing danger to physical safety or threatens to disrupt the educational process.
WEAPONS
Students utilizing any dangerous or deadly weapon (including replicas) in a threatening manner or to incite fear, inflict injury, or disrupt the educational process are subject suspension/expulsion.
Any SDUHSD employee or district contracted transportation service representative may remove from the possession of any student any firearm, knife (including Swiss army, pocket, etc.), explosive or other dangerous objects, while the student is on school premises or engaged in any school sponsored activity or going to or returning from school or otherwise under the authority of the school.
This act shall be reported to the principal/designee. The student will surrender all dangerous objects or be subject to disciplinary action for such refusal. Parents and appropriate law enforcement officials shall be notified by the principal/designee of the taking of weapons and the disciplinary action followed.
Consequences
Students are subject to suspension or expulsion for possessing illegal weapons upon a first offense. Illegal weapons will be turned over to the police department as evidence. Other items may be returned to parents and/or guardians.
SEARCH AND SEIZURE
In order to maintain order on the school premises, it may be necessary at times to conduct searches of vehicles or require students to submit to searches for weapons, drugs, or contraband.
ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY
Honest behavior is an expectation for all students in SDUHSD. The purpose of this policy is to create and maintain an ethical academic atmosphere. "Academic Honesty" means that all academic work is the legitimate, truthful work of the student. Students submit tests, essays, projects, and homework that are free from fraud or deception. When taking tests or submitting homework, students rely on their own knowledge and preparation, unless otherwise instructed by the teacher. Students credit sources used when the wording, ideas, facts, statistics, or opinions of other persons or books are utilized. Honest, ethical behavior is an essential component in the learning process.
BEHAVIORS WHICH WILL NOT BE TOLERATED
Cheating on Tests - Any intentional giving of or use of external assistance relating to an examination, test, or quiz without express permission of the teacher. This includes looking on another student’s paper, sharing answers, or copying another student’s paper.
Fabrication - Any intentional falsification or invention of data citation, or other authority in an academic exercise.
Unauthorized Collaboration - While collaboration is often encouraged, unauthorized collaboration is not permitted.
Plagiarism - Any intentional representation of anothers’ ideas, words, or work as one’s own. Plagiarism includes the misuse of published material, electronic material, and/or the work of other students. The original writer who intentionally shares his/her paper for another to copy, without permission of the teacher, is also engaged in plagiarism.
Alteration of Materials - Any intentional and unauthorized alteration of student, teacher, or library materials.
Forgery - Any unauthorized signing of another person’s name to school related documents.
Theft - Any Theft of materials.
Transfer of Unauthorized Materials - Any giving or selling of unauthorized materials.
CONSEQUENCES FOR ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
Any alleged violation of will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. Depending on the severity of the offense one or more of the following consequences may occur:
Note - Violation on a school administered national or state examination will result in a district Code of Conduct violation.
TORREY PINES HIGH SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
The purpose of our school is to educate students. This can only be accomplished when students are provided with a safe environment and are able to concentrate on their studies. Therefore:
Students must behave in ways that allow teachers to teach, students to learn, and in ways that encourage others to learn. Students must behave in a manner that is in the best interest to everyone.

ATTENDANCE
Students must attend all scheduled classes each school day unless they have an excused absence. All day or period absences, that are not excused absences, and students who leave campus without permission are considered and recorded as truants. To leave campus you must have an authorized Off Campus Pass from the Attendance Office, Health Office, or written permission from an Administrator.

TARDIES
Students must be in class when the final bell rings or they are considered tardy. Students must have a written pass from a staff member, attendance office or an administrator for the teacher to excuse the tardy.

4 or More Occurrences - Parent Contact, Referral To Assistant Principal, Assignment of After School Detention or Saturday School.
SATURDAY SCHOOL
1. Students must have their ID card to be admitted.
2. No one will be admitted after 8:05am
3. Students must have schoolwork to do or will not be permitted to stay. (No computers, drawing, or reading of magazines.)
4. No music, games (including graphing calculator games), movies, headphones, or cell phones.
5. There will be no sleeping, group work or talking.
6. There will be no eating or drinking in the room. Bottles of water with caps on them are the only exception.
7. Any discipline problems will result in immediate removal from Saturday School and a referral.
8. There will be ONE 10-minute break from 10:00am to 10:10am. No one will be admitted back after 10:10. If you do not return you will be assigned additional Saturday school time.
HALL PASSES
Students are required to carry Hall Passes when out on campus, during class time. Students without Hall Passes will be assigned After School Detention.
STUDENT I.D. CARDS
Students also are required to carry their Torrey Pines High School I.D. cards with them at all times during school hours and at all on and off campus related school events. Students must be prepared to present it upon request by any staff member or administrator.
