Fashion and Interior Design Sector (Fashion Design, Manufacturing, and Merchandising Pathway)

Fashion Design ROP                                                                                                             Grade Levels: 9-12                                                                                    Course Description:  Have you ever thought about a career in Fashion or wanted to know more about the world of fashion?  Then this course is for you!  In this course students will have the opportunity to learn and apply the elements and principles of fashion design.  Students will study the history of fashion, learn about textiles, fabrics, color, wardrobe coordination, apply their skills in designing and marketing their own custom apparel, and produce and star in their own fashion show production.  Students will take a field trip(s) to events and places such as a fashion show, fashion college, fabric store, etc. and learn from guest speakers in the fashion industry.  Students will explore careers related to fashion, prepare for job interviews and learn how to write a resume and cover letter.  Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate which may be used for job acquisition.  Sewing and drawing skills are a plus, but not required. 

Fashion Merchandising ROP                                                                                              Grade Levels: 9-12
Course Description:
  Have you ever watched shows about fashion and thought you would enjoy a career in the fashion industry?  Here is your chance to find out.   This course prepares students for an entry level position in the fashion industry.  Instruction includes business basics and how they relate to running a fashion business, coordinating fashion merchandise into complete outfits, store and window display, advertising, promotion and selling techniques.  The students will also produce and star in their own fashion show production.  Students will have the opportunity to apply their learned job skills and acquire hand-on experience working off campus at local boutiques as a community classroom component of the class.   The instructor will assist the student with placement.  Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate which may be used for job acquisition.

 

Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation Sector (Food Science, Dietetics and Nutrition Pathway)

Art of Cooking
Grade Levels: 9-12                                                                                                          Course Description: Have you ever watched Rachel Ray or Sam the Cooking Guy and thought you would enjoy cooking too? Here's your chance. This hands-on course is designed to develop basic food preparation skills while applying nutritional principles to your life based on the revised Food Guide Pyramid. You'll learn how to make pasta, pies, appetizers, stir-fry and much more from scratch. Students choose recipes, plan and budget for cooking, prepare and cook a variety of dishes, evaluate and enjoy their success.  Students who have food allergies please contact the teacher to inform them before the first class meeting.

ROP Culinary Arts
Grade Levels: 10-12                                                                                                         Course Description: This is an advanced course for students who love to cook. It will prepare you for an entry level position in the Culinary Arts field. The emphasis is on advanced cooking techniques and preparing challenging dishes and menus. You will participate in our food show where you will demonstrate your culinary skills and know how. Students will research careers in the field, and learn to write a winning resume and cover letter and how to prepare for job interviews.   Students will also be assisted in obtaining a food handlers card.  You'll meet and interact with professionals in the field through our community classroom.  Here you'll have the opportunity to apply your learned job skills and acquire hands-on experience working off campus at various restaurants and establishments within the field. The instructor will assist students with placement. The culinary art students will operate the Falcon Coffee Shop (pending approval) and will learn job skills in running a small business. Upon completion of this course, students will receive a certificate which can be used for job acquisition.
