At Torrey Pines High School, we will be hosting Robert Hackerson on December 5th and he will be delivering a powerful message to our students on the topic of smoking. The presentation will include the following talking points: 
  • Marketing,  messages of tobacco and vaping companies vs. the Truth
  • Consequences,  of smoking that you already know
  • Why students still choose to smoke, 
  • The Vaping Craze & what students don’t know
  • Power of influence & perception
  • Dangers of smokeless tobacco
  • (Optional Section) – What students need to know about teen Marijuana Use
  • Looking to your future
  • How to make smart choices
The presentation will be to students during the day through 2 assemblies and to our parent community in the evening starting at 6:30 - 7:45 pm. The parent event will be in our Lecture Hall and will be limited to 175 people due to facilities, so look for a sign-up link here in the near future. Other Upcoming Parent Workshops Throughout SDUHSD

SDUHSD Parent Forums: Drug Trends and Social Media Awareness forums will be held at each of our middle schools throughout the school year. The dates and locations are below, but look to the flyer for more information:
  • October 23 at Earl Warren starting at 6:00 pm 
  • October 26 at Oak Crest starting at 8:30 am
  • November 7 at Diegueno starting at 6:00 pm
  • December 6 at Carmel Valley starting at 6:00 pm
San Dieguito Alliance for a Drug Free Youth hosts numerous events to inform parents of current trends in our school and strategies for addressing youth drug and alcohol abuse. They will be hosting a local event on Friday November 9, 2018. It will be take place at Pacific Trails Middle School in their Media Center. At Canyon Crest Academy, they will be hosting parent workshops that feature YouSchool founder Scott Schimmel and aim to support parents in supporting their students academic, social, and emotional well-being at school. All workshops are from 7:00 - 8:00 pm in the Proscenium on the following dates:
  • December 11th, 2018
  • February 12th, 2019
  • May 21st, 2019
At La Costa Canyon High School they are featuring a Parent Speaker Series with the following:
  • December 5th, 2018, 6:30-8:00 in the LCCHS  Gym: Guest Speaker Josh Ochs is the author of the book "Light, Bright And Polite" and he travels the country training 30,000 Teens and Tweens each year. He will be speaking with parents bring them up to speed on how they can have a dialog with their kids about social media safety. Click HERE to RSVP.

  • May 30, 2019, 6:30-8:00 in the LCCHS Theater: Guest Speaker Tyler Durman will be presentating, "Bite Sized Wisdom for Parents - Parenting a Teenager," covering overall student wellness and relevant issues for parents of current students.  This night will provide our parent community with practical tips on how to help your child socially and emotionally to live well balanced lives.
